Hossein Gharib, a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School, completed internal medicine residency and fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the Mayo Clinic, where he is currently Professor of Medicine.


Dr Gharib is an international authority on thyroid disorders, having published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and lectured at more than 350 national & international endocrine events. He has received many honors & awards, including the prestigious Paul Starr Award of the American Thyroid Association and the Distinguished Physician Award of the Endocrine Society. He is a Master of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology, and received an honorary doctorate degree from “Carol Davila” University of Medicine & Pharmacy in Romania in 2015. He is a Past President of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the American College of Endocrinology, and the American Thyroid Association. His citation index is >8700 and H-index 49.

Dr. Dima Abdelmannan, is an Associate Professor and Vice Clinical Dean of Dubai Medical College in Dubai, U.A.E.  Dr. Dima Abdelmannan is also a Consultant Endocrinologist at the Dubai Diabetes Center at Dubai Health Authority. Dr. Abdelmannan has dual boards from both the UK and the USA. In the United States she completed her internal medicine residency training from the Cleveland Clinic Health System and then completed fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland. She continued to do clinical and Research work at the same institution for several years before returning to Dubai, UAE to hold an academic position.  Her research work is in the fields of pituitary and adrenal diseases as well as diabetes.  She has presented her work at national American meetings and published it in peer-reviewed journals.  Besides being interested in Clinical Endocrinology and Research she has been interested in Medical Education and therefore took this leading role at the medical school in order to improve the standards of medical education in Dubai and the UAE. Dr. Abdelmannan is a scholar of the Harvard Macy Institute of Health professionals as educators and is actively involved in implementing efficient ways in medical pedagogy including simulation and e-learning.

Richard Auchus, MD, PhD

Dr. Richard Auchus is a Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology & Diabetes (MEND) and director of the MEND Fellowship Program. He received his medical degree and Ph.D. in pharmacology from Washington University in St. Louis. Then Dr. Auchus completed a residency at the University of Iowa and an endocrinology fellowship at UTHSC-San Antonio/Wilford Hall Medical Center. Dr. Auchus came to UMHS from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Southwestern Medical School, University of Texas, where he was a Professor of Internal Medicine – Endocrinology.


Dr. Auchus is a steroid biologist with expertise both in basic science and clinical/translational science. His work has included translational research into: molecular and genetic mechanisms of human hypertension, improved diagnostic studies and management in primary aldosteronism and Cushing syndromes, modifier genes in 21-hydroxylase deficiency, cardiovascular disease in polycystic ovary syndrome, and the endocrinology of traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Shehzad Basaria is an expert in the field of Andrology who has joined the Section of Endocrinology at BUMC as the Clinical Director of Androgen Clinical Research Unit (ACRU). Dr. Basaria’s primary role is the promotion of clinical research at ACRU. Dr. Basaria has research funding from the National Institute on Aging and from Industry and conducts his own research in the field of Endocrine Oncology (evaluating endocrine complications of castration in men with prostate cancer) and Endocrinology of Aging (testosterone replacement in elderly men). He is also evaluating the role of testosterone replacement in men with opioid-induced hypogonadism.


In addition to his own research, Dr. Basaria supervises and directs all of the clinical research that takes place within ACRU. Dr. Basaria currently oversees 7 clinical trials at ACRU that focus on the role of testosterone on physical function, sexual dysfunction, atherosclerosis, pain perception and quality of life in men and women.

Gordon Francis, MD

Dr. Gordon Francis is an endocrinologist and Professor of Medicine in the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation and Department of Medicine at St. Paul’s Hospital, UBC. Dr. Francis completed his BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry at Simon Fraser University, followed by MD training at McGill University, internship and internal medicine residency at UBC, and fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of Alberta. He was then a senior research fellow for 4 years studying basic and clinical lipid and lipoprotein metabolism at the University of Washington in Seattle. From 1994-2007 he was a member of the CIHR Group in Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids and from 2000-2007 Director of the Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Clinic at the University of Alberta. In 2007 he returned to his home city of Vancouver to join the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation (formerly UBC James Hogg Research Centre) and direct the Healthy Heart Program Prevention (former Lipid) Clinic. Establishment of his laboratory in this Centre at St. Paul’s Hospital was funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon. He holds research funding from CIHR and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, and is the principal investigator for a Canadian Foundation for Innovation Leading Edge Fund award funded in 2012, “Molecules to Human: Enhanced phenotyping for the discovery,prevention, & treatment of heart, lung, & blood vessel disease”. Previous awards have included an Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Senior Scholar Award, the University of Alberta Department of Medicine Award for Excellence in Academic Mentoring, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Medal in Medicine.

Dr. Amir Hamrahian is the chief Endocrinology in the Medical Subspecialties Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. He has received his medical degree from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey. He did his internal medicine residency at the University of North Dakota and endocrinology fellowship at Case Western Reserve University. He is a professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.


He joined Cleveland Clinic in 2000 and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi as a seconded physician in 2014. He specializes in Endocrinology and has special interest in pituitary and adrenal disorders. Dr. Hamrahian has published more than 75 peer reviewed articles. He has served as a co-author in developing guidelines for pituitary and adrenal disorders. He has given presentations on pituitary and adrenal disorders at national meetings and has served as the principal investigator for a number of pituitary related clinical research studies.

Graham T. McMahon M.D. M.M.Sc. is the President and CEO at the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education based in Chicago. Previously he was an Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and Program Director for the fellowship program in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston where he completed his postgraduate training. Dr. McMahon received his medical education at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, a master’s degree in clinical research from Harvard Medical School, and his doctorate in education from the National University of Ireland. He was the editor for medical education at the New England Journal of Medicine for more than 10 years. He has received local and national awards for his teaching and his work in medical education and diabetes research. His work has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Diabetes Care, the Archives of Internal Medicine, the Journal of General Internal Medicine, and Medical Education.

Dr. Ebaa Al-Ozairi is an Assistant Professor at Kuwait University and a Consultant Diabetes, Endocrine and Nutrition. She is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Dundee University UK. Dr. Al Ozairi has completed her intercalated BMSc (hons) in molecular pathology at Dundee University (UK) and graduated from Aberdeen University (UK) for her medical undergraduate studies. Dr. Al Ozairi then joined Newcastle University (UK) for her specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology. During her postgraduate studies in UK, Dr. Al Ozairi was awarded The Fulbright fellowship to Joslin Diabetes Center, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA.


Her research interest includes diabetes education, technology, metabolic surgery and obesity. Ebaa has been accredited by the Royal College of physician (UK) as a medical educator, and is an associate practitioner at the UK Higher Education National Academy having completed teaching fellowship. She has completed her fellowship in obesity and holds the American Board for Physician Nutrition Specialist and is a fellow at the American College of Nutrition. She also directs DAFNE type 1 diabetes education program and currently is granted the training centre for the Middle East. Dr. Alozairi has completed her Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Al-Ozairi is on the editorial board for Austin Medical Journal and the Journal of community medicine and public health. She is also a reviewer for Diabetic Medicine, Obesity Surgery, Practical International Diabetes. She has 3 chapters in International books and an author in medscape, bariatric times and Endodiabology. Dr. Alozairi has won his highness the Amir Gold medal electronic award and the Arab regional award for founding In addition, she is the Treasurer/Secretary of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologist- Gulf Chapter.

Dr. Ali S. Alzahrani is a Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology at Al Faisal University in Riyadh. Dr. Ali Zahrani obtained his Medical Degree from King Saud University in 1990. This was followed by Residency in Internal Medicine at KFSH & RC during the period 1991-1995 and Clinical and Research Fellowship at the John Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, USA during the years 1995-1998. He has been a Consultant Endocrinologist at KFSH & RC since 1998. During the period 2010 to 2011, Dr. Alzahrani was a faculty member and visiting Scientist at the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in John Hopkins University, School of Medicine, Baltimore, United States of America. Since his return late in 2011, he has become a Scientist and Head of the Molecular Endocrinology Division in the Department of Molecular Oncology, Research Center in addition to his Consultant Endocrinology position. Most recently, he has been appointed as a Deputy Executive Director, Research Center at KFSH & RC, Jeddah.


Dr. Alzahrani is proactive in several editorial boards of famously known medical publications. He was the Editor-in Chief of the Annals of Saudi Medicine and an Editorial Board Member of the British Journal of Diabetes and Vascular Medicine. He is an Editorial Board member of the prestigious official journal of the American Thyroid Association, THYROID. Dr. Alzahrani has more than 70 peer-reviewed articles, more than ninty regional and international presentations and has conducted more than ninety lectures nationally and internationally as an invited speaker. Dr. Al Zahrani’s academic interests are clinical and molecular research in the areas of thyroid cancer and endocrine genetics.
